Breitling has long been purveyor of chronographs to pilots, but in the 1950's, the popularity of dive watches like the Rolex Submariner and Blancpain Fifty Fathoms pushed Breitling to enter the sub-aquatic race.
In 1957, Breitling released both a time-only dive watch, the SuperOcean Reference 1004, and a diver's chronograph in the form of the Reference 807. These watches would be the start of a long-lasting and ever-evolving line of nautical watches loved by many.
This piece, a SuperOcean 42 Reference A17365 is a contemporary take on the diver that started it all. Housed in a 42mm stainless steel case with a unidirectional timing bezel, it features a sapphire crystal, signed crown, a luminous blue sunburst dial with bold ‘Arabic’ indices, a date window at 3 o’clock, a matching ‘stick’ handset and a multi-link stainless steel bracelet with a locking clasp.
